Jonita Gandhi went to the Turner Fenton Secondary School. After the completion of her school education, she got enrolled at the Richard Ivey School of Business. She graduated from there with an honors degree in business administration.
Jonita also went to the University of Western Ontario and graduated with a Bachelor of health science.
To polish up her musical skills, she took classes at the Ontario Conservatory of Music, where she received training in western classical music.
Jonita Gandhi was born in New Delhi, India. She moved to Canada with her family when she was 7 years old. She grew up in Toronto and Brampton. Her father, a musician by hobby and an electronics engineer by profession, recognized her potential and encouraged her to sing. Gandhi first performed in 1995 at a gig at her father’s show in Toronto on a Christmas event and the years to follow became prosperous for her. She completed her degrees in health science and business. She also received an internship at CIBC World Markets during her undergrad but the first passion for Gandhi was always singing, so music continued to run in background throughout her education. Gandhi has formal training in Western classical music and during her stay in India has taken up training in Hindustani classical singing.
Jonita Gandhi started posting videos in collaboration with Aakash Gandhi when she was 17 and they went viral on internet. She has big hits on YouTube for covers of songs Someone Like You, Pani Da Rang, Tujhko Jo Paaya, Tum Hi Ho, Suhaani Raat, Yeh Honsla, and many others. She has also performed in BC, Canada for songs like Aao Huzoor Tumko, Lag Ja Gale which are very famous.
She has participated at concerts with Sonu Nigam which were located in various countries including Russia, UK, US and the Caribbean. After that, she decided to try her fortune in India. She started her career in the Bollywood music industry. Gandhi stepped into the world of playback singing with Vishal–Shekhar in Chennai Express starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. She continued her work in Bollywood with the movie Highway starring Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt, singing the tracks Kahaan Hoon Main and Implosive Silence.
Gandhi’s work as a playback singer is not limited to film soundtracks as she has been featured in AR Rahman’s album Raunaq as well. Her association with Rahman continued with a backing vocal performance for the Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film OK Kanmani. On July 26, 2016, she performed at the 2016 Jubilee Games in Dubai with Salim-Sulaiman as well as other well known Ismaili Muslim artists as part of a Global Concert. In 2017, she performed with Amit Trivedi on MTV Unplugged (India) Season 6. Her song “The Breakup Song” from the movie “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” topped the charts and also brought her many award nominations and wider recognition.

She got her early breakthrough in the music industry with the popularity of her covers of popular songs that she posted on her YouTube channel.
While growing up, she didn’t receive any formal music training. She instead learned all by herself by listening to the songs of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.
After she graduated from the university in 2012, she was selected by Sonu Nigam to be part of his musical tour. She later decided to move to Mumbai to try her luck at playback singing in Bollywood.
She met music producers Vishal and Shekhar through a mutual friend. They were working on Chennai Express soundtrack and allowed her to record a scratch on the title track, and eventually decided to keep her song on the album.
If she hadn’t become a singer, she would have loved to become an investment banker.
She got into music at a very young age and by the age of 7, she had given her first public performance as her father got her to perform with his band at one of their gigs.
When she was 7 years old, her family moved to Canada from New Delhi. She grew up in Brampton and Toronto.
When she was 17 years old, she started collaborating with Akash Gandhi for the YouTube videos, which served as her first success.
