Aya Jones was born from Ivorian father and French mother. She grew up in the 11th district of Paris where her family owns a restaurant. Growing up, she practiced ballet, modern jazz, and hip-hop.
She was discovered by an agent who stopped her on the street and made her sign with her mother agency, The Lions.
Her first fashion show was for Prada for whom she was an exclusive at the Spring/Summer 2015 Milan Fashion Week. The following week, she was at Paris Fashion Week where she walked for designers including Giambattista Valli, Miu Miu, Viktor & Rolf, Valentino, Giambattista Valli and Nina Ricci. Katie Grand, Edward Enninful and Bethann Hardison named her one of the best models of the season, British fashion magazine i-D placed her at the fourth position of their top 10 new faces of 2014 and Interview made her one of the 15 faces of 2015.
She was photographed by Steven Meisel for Prada, advertising the brand’s Pre-Fall 2015 collection alongside Natalie Westling, Willow Hand and Julia Nobis. According to Vanity Fair, she was the 44th most influent French person in the world in 2015. She was also that same year one of the favorite models of the New York Times.
She was on the cover of the August edition of Teen Vogue, which was titled “Meet the new faces of fashion”. This cover made a lot of noise in the fashion industry because the three models featured on it are women of color and it helps fighting the predominance of white models and the lack of diversity on the industry. She has been on many magazine covers since this one, including Vogue Spain, which titled the cover “Black is beautiful”.
Jones was noticeably absent from 2017 fashion weeks, because of a jet ski accident in Thailand where she sustained multiple injuries.
She punctured her lung and stomach and fractured her arm, pelvis, leg, and cranium. After a full year of recovery she returned to modeling with an ad for Mango.

If cherubs were descended from the Ivory Coast, grew up in Paris and had legs that went on for miles, they’d look something like Aya Jones, all pillowy lips and heart-shaped face. This 20-year-old beauty was spotted on the Rue du Rivoli in the City of Love before being signed to The Lions in New York and going on to walk her first ever show as a Prada exclusive for spring/summer 15. In the seven months since, she’s been on a whirlwind tour walking for everyone from Marc Jacobs to Moschino, and has just appeared in Prada’s Pre-Fall 15 campaign, lensed by Steven Meisel and also starring Natalie Westling and Julia Nobis.
Her model role model is “Naomi Campbell because of her charity work and the shows that she has organized to support it.”
If she could use her new-found fame to change the world “I would promote more ethnic diversity in the world and encourage a healthy body image for models.”
She stands up against forced labor “Particularly of children. It’s an awful thing. Everyone should have the right to freedom and education. Perhaps it touches me more because I am of African descent, and some of my ancestors did not enjoy this freedom.”
The most rebellious thing she’s ever done is “Cutting school and spending the day with friends instead.”
In a blockbuster of her life, this is who she’d choose to play herself, and her lover: “Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.”
She believes beauty starts on the inside “By having purity and simplicity from the inside you will have everything to look beautiful from the outside.”
If she wasn’t a model, she’d be doing something totally different: “I might be a nurse.”
She was spotted on the Rue du Rivoli in Paris. She was then signed to her first contract by The Lions in New York.
In 2015, she walked for Marc Jacobs and Moschino. She was also featured in Prada’s Pre-Fall campaign.
She was born and raised in Paris. Her family has owned and operateed a restaurant there, called Rue de la Forge Royale. It specializes in food native to the Ivory Coast, which is where her father is originally from.
She has stated that Naomi Campbell is her modeling role model due to her charity work.
Aya Jones, the Parisian model who almost died in a horrific jet ski accident has returned to the runway after a miraculous year-long recovery that left her with metal rods in her arms and legs.
On August 27, 2016, Aya Jones and her boyfriend were jet skiing off the coast of Ko Phangan at the end of their three-week vacation in Thailand when a speedboat carrying hotel guests to the beach slammed into her vehicle.
‘My first thought was the unfairness of it all,’ Aya told Vogue of the accident, which left the now 23-year-old with a punctured lung and stomach, a fractured arm, leg, and pelvis, as well as a cracked skull.
Aya’s boyfriend was the one who rescued her body from the water, and she was taken to the nearby island of Ko Samui for an emergency operation.
After the surgery, she was flown to Bangkok in a plane that kept a low altitude because of her fractured cranium.
She woke up in the hospital with her mother, brother, and boyfriend, who explained what had happened to her.
‘I thought, “Why did this happen to me, why I was I in that place that day?”‘
Aya said of her first reaction to the accident.
As a young girl, Aya took years of dance classes and proved to be a fearless gymnast. As she got older, she was drawn to daredevil sports such as jet skiing and riding all-terrain vehicles — which she noted she is now done with.Aya was discovered while shopping with a friend on Rue de Rivoli right after her high school graduation, and she was soon walking the catwalk for Prada’s spring 2015 show.
She was later chose to be the face of Nars Cosmetics, and just a few months after she shot images for the beauty company’s fall 2016 campaign, she was in the hospital in Thailand.Aya’s mother Beatrice noted that the only time her daughter complained during her year-long recovery was when her brother had to leave Thailand after two weeks.’Then she cried for an hour,’ her mom said. While most people would find it torturous to keep track of their colleagues’ success during such a difficult time, Aya insisted it made her happy to see her model friends doing so well, noting that their social media pictures gave her hope that she would one day return to modeling to join them. When she returned to Paris, it took five months for Aya’s bones to become strong enough to hold her body weight while she was standing upright. It took her another six months of strenuous physical therapy to learn how to walk again. When her friend, model Imaan Hammam, visited her in April, Aya told her that she was trying to learn how to walk in heels again.Aya returned to modeling one year to the day after her accident, flying to Barcelona to pose for an ad campaign for Mango.Although she has metal rods and arms in her legs, Aya has still retained her natural grace, and the scars on her body from the accident can easily be covered with make-up.This fall, a few months after she returned to modeling, she was back on the runway, walking for the likes of Marc Jacobs and Dolce & Gabbana during the fashion weeks in New York.
